Practice Owner
Dr. Hargus Graduated from NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She received a Bachelor of Science from Mars Hill College with a double major in chemistry and math and a minor in biology. She has been practicing mixed animal veterinary medicine for 20 years. In 2003 her only child Haley Hargus was born. After working for several years Dr. Hargus decided to open her own practice. Dr. Herbert Justus (friend and mentor), Alton Maybin (cousin), and Grover Maybin (father) helped her open Animals R Us Veterinary Clinic in 2004. In 2010 she wanted to offer more livestock experience to Haley and other children in Henderson County so, she and a group of concerned people in the community restarted the Henderson County Barnyard Bandits 4HLivestock Group. She is also very involved with Farm City Day, Henderson County Farm Bureau women’s group, and WNC Beef Cattle Commission. Her favorite animals are cows and cats.
Veterinarian
Dr. Ann Fratcher graduated from NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. She worked in private practice in South Carolina for three years before moving to the Asheville area. She has worked as a relief veterinarian in Western North Carolina since then.
Dr. Fratcher joined our team in 2008, and continues to help out as needed in surgery, hospital cases and appointments. She has a has a mixed family of cats, horses and a dog and loves to go horseback riding every chance she gets!
Certified Pharmacy Tech
With 21 years of experience from working at other various clinics, she has dedicated 12 years of that time here at Animals R Us. She is a lover of cats, specifically Bengals and our clinic cat, Zoe, and is always ready and willing to assist.
As friendly in person as they are on the phone! These lovely ladies are responsible for answering your calls and questions, directing you to our technicians if you are in need of pet advice, and scheduling your fur-babies for their wellness exams and vaccines.

Hello, my name is Teddy. I have lived here at Animals R Us for 3 years! I am night owl, being outside is how I spend most my time and waiting for Temptations!
My name is Merlin, I am a certified mouse hunter, I will also inspect vehicles and trailers as they pull into the parking lot, and I try to keep the dust clear off any shelf I fit on.
My name is Toby, street name Grumpy Cat, I always grace the staff with my majestic tail and ask that you only pet me with your eyes.
